I was interested to see Arnold Schoenberg listed as the conductor of his Variations in February 1933. I had understood this performance was conducted by Sir Adrian Boult. Maybe Boult conducted a separate studio broadcast around the same time.
Thanks for the post. I've checked the review of the performance in The Times which makes it clear that Schoenberg did indeed conduct the work himself.
How could I find out if my great grandad was amongst the orchestral players? I know he payed bassoon for a BBC orchestra..his surname was Williams and I'm trying to find out his first name and when he was playing...approx this time..thanks!
